Strategies for Unlocking Your Potential: Expanding Your Skillset and Aspirations

There is no passion to be found in playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living. - Nelson Mandela
When was the last time you checked in with yourself? Were you living life up to your true potential, or did you settle in for what came your way? We all are born with infinite potential, and in this life, it is up to us to tap into that capability to live the life of our dreams.
A client I worked with in the past years shared her success story; Growing up, her peers discouraged her, saying that her only ability was to “talk.” However, years later, she established a very successful career in communication using the same knowledge people thought was useless. However, her success didn’t just come from luck, she had to make certain decisions, work hard, and be determined to follow her dreams with the resources she had.
Another success story is that of Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger, an Austrian and American actor, businessman, filmmaker, former politician, and former professional bodybuilder. Schwarzenegger was an average academic student. He struggled with reading and was later diagnosed as being dyslexic. Money was a problem in their household. At age 14, he chose bodybuilding over football as a career. This choice later became the first step towards his extraordinary success.
No matter how small you think your skillset is, there is always room for growth, dreams, and building a life you once dreamed of. All you have to do is find that crucial element within you.
It’s good to seek stability regarding finances, career, and routine, but always ask yourself what more can you do? How else can you grow physically, mentally, and spiritually? How do you see yourself, and what are your aspirations? These fundamental questions should be asked at every stage of your life so that the process of evolution never stops.
It can be challenging to expand yourself when you are used to living inside a box. To grow, you must leave your comfort zone and be willing to take calculated, positive risks. The big question is to ask yourself if you are ready to unlocking your potential or if you are happy to settle for whatever life throws your way?
The Top Three Elements
Imagine looking at the most exquisite piece of art you have ever seen, and a big block of that frame is missing. How would that make you feel? Would you think that this incomplete piece is beautiful or misaligned? That is how most human lives also appear to be. If you are financially successful but emotionally wrecked, it’s not a complete image.
Therefore, the three top elements of your life's emotional/ mental, physical, and financial state must be considered when growth is discussed.
Your mental/ emotional health helps you live a physically healthier life and make sound financial decisions. If you have poor physical health, you won’t be able to use your cognitive abilities to your best, spend a lot on your medical bills, and might often miss days at work, whether you are employed or an entrepreneur.
Flourish Cognitively
As said, an exquisite life is incomplete without the three essential elements: you must grow mentally, value your mental health, and seek ways to elevate it. A flourishing life will always start with a flourishing mind.
Invest time and energy in growing mentally. This includes learning new skills, new ways to become mentally healthier (meditation, therapy, workshops, and programs that’ll help you advance your mental fitness) and seeking alliances that allow you to think outside of the box and help you grow cognitively.
Growth opportunities appear when you open yourself up to mental growth and allow yourself to explore life with an open mind.
Peak Physical Fitness
This is not a competition, but when you improve your physical performance, you build your stamina to cognitively perform better. Set out goals for yourself; how can you improve your physical health? What lifestyle changes do you need to make to become healthier? Perhaps it’s reducing or completely eliminating alcohol or smoking from your routine, or you need to start eating healthier or going to the gym more often.
These do not have to be drastic changes, but you can start the process by adding incremental changes to your lifestyle; however, if those changes are consistent, you can expect tremendous growth in the years or even months to come.
It’s scientifically proven that how you feel physically impacts your neurological thinking and vice versa.
Financial Freedom
Money can never be the end goal because if you have money and have no aspirations, that money will be of no use to you. However, money is essential to reaching your goals, and financial stability must be addressed. Whether you wish to become a social entrepreneur or start a dream business, you will need substantial savings someday. Whatever your goals are, be transparent so you can strategize to work towards them in the next few years.
Work on ideas on how to earn cash besides your current fixed income and create multiple income streams to invest that extra income in your goals and create a nest of savings for the future. When working on a 9 to 5 job, we believe we don’t have enough time to do anything else, but that is a false perception in most cases. Although it can be challenging sometimes, when you are genuinely inspired to do something, you will always make time for it.
Budget yourself monthly and yearly to spend your money wisely. Learn how you can save more so that you can invest more in meaningful things.
If you think of your struggles as a foundation for your future dreams, you will realize that it’s not a struggle anymore; instead, it’s the first step towards freedom and living your dreams.
Growth is possible for all of us; you just have to prioritize it. If I can leave you with one thing today, it would be to never give up on your dreams; they are worth living.
